The ALICE project (Active Living promotion for a better Inclusion of Children at risk of Exclusion and poverty) promotes social inclusion and healthy lifestyles among children living in rural, remote and marginalized urban areas.
Many children growing up in disadvantaged communities have limited access to sports facilities, sports clubs and organised physical activities. This can negatively affect their health, development, self-confidence and opportunities for social interaction.
To address this challenge, ALICE introduces an innovative concept — the ALICE Truck, a mobile sports hub equipped with sports equipment, games and educational materials. The truck travels to communities where sports infrastructure is limited or absent, transforming parks, schoolyards, squares and other public spaces into temporary playgrounds and open-air sports areas.
Through sports activities, workshops and community engagement, ALICE creates opportunities for children to play, stay active and experience the positive values of sport. The project helps children build confidence, teamwork, communication skills and resilience, while strengthening cooperation between sports organisations, children’s organisations and local communities.
The project will engage 600+ children, reach 30+ locations and bring together partners from 6 European countries — Greece, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal and Croatia — working together to make sport more accessible, inclusive and meaningful for every child.
Overall project objective
The overall objective of the ALICE project is to promote social inclusion and improve the well-being of children at risk of poverty and social exclusion by increasing their access to sport and physical activity in rural and marginalized communities.
