About the project

Overall project objective

The overall objective of the ALICE project is to promote social inclusion and improve the well-being of children at risk of poverty and social exclusion by increasing their access to sport and physical activity in rural and marginalized communities.

Specific objectives

  • Strengthen the capacities of partner organisations to collaborate transnationally and implement innovative approaches that use sport as a tool for social inclusion.
  • Improve the skills of sport clubs, coaches, volunteers, and community organisations to effectively engage children living in poverty or social exclusion through sport activities.
  • Develop and pilot the ALICE Truck model, bringing sport directly to children in rural and marginalized urban areas.
  • Increase awareness of inclusive sport initiatives and encourage other organisations and communities to adopt and replicate the ALICE approach.

The ALICE project (Active Living promotion for a better Inclusion of Children at risk
of Exclusion and poverty)
aims to promote social inclusion and healthy lifestyles
among children living in rural, remote, and marginalized urban areas. Many children
growing up in disadvantaged communities have limited access to sports facilities and
organised physical activities, which can negatively affect their health, development,
and opportunities for social interaction.

To address this challenge, ALICE introduces an innovative concept – the ALICE Truck, a
mobile sports hub equipped with sports equipment and educational materials. The
truck travels to communities where sports infrastructure is limited or absent,
transforming parks, schoolyards, squares, and other public spaces into temporary
playgrounds.

Through sports activities, workshops, and community engagement, the project
encourages children to stay active, build confidence, develop teamwork and
communication skills, and experience the positive values of sport while strengthening
cooperation between sports organisations and local communities.
